Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor:
This is in response to Larry Findley's letter concerning renting residences as vacation homes.
Do the zoning laws allow commercial ventures within a residential neighborhood? If they do, then I would work hard to change that zoning. People in a residential neighborhood have the right to peaceful habitation, which, clearly, you all are being deprived of.
You might even take the owners and property owners to court for creating and sustaining a nuisance.
Anywhere there are vacation rentals, there need to be laws specifying when, where and how those properties are rented, and local government must remember it is the year-around homeowners who deserve first consideration.
I would also contact the vacation homeowners directly, and communicate just what's been going on. They may not know. Good luck to you.

Dear Editor:
I wrote a letter which was published in the July 26 edition of The Rockport Pilot regarding the many accidents on FM 1781 between Copano Village and Copano Ridge and the need for a lower speed limit.
Early Saturday, Aug. 9, while I was on vacation, I received a phone call from a Rockport friend who had heard about yet another accident on FM 1781.
After having lived here for more than 12 years, I cannot even imagine the number of vehicles we have seen in the ditches of this section of FM 1781. Many of the vehicles we see are in the early morning hours and without drivers, i.e. just the vehicles. I imagine most of these accidents are never reported to the authorities.
My question in my first letter and again in this letter is, “What will it take to get a reduced speed limit on this section of FM 1781?”

Dear Editor:
How in the world did we get an education? I have two boys at home attending school in Aransas County. One is in the middle school and the other at Fulton Learning Center. I am upset about the list of school supplies we are expected to purchase. What happened to pen, notebook paper, binder and a couple of folders? Again, how in the world did we learn anything? My cost for school supples was over $120. There are quite a few items on the list which are for the teachers' use, not the student.
Now you teachers out there I take my hat off to you and remember you in prayer so please do not get offended. I want my boys to learn as much as possible.
Why, why, why do we pay the high school taxes only to see a portion of the money has been given away? Why are the budgets for supplies for the teachers not increased to meet their needs? I know a lot of the things in their rooms are funded from their own pockets, and yet they are expected to meet more and more requirements. My husband and I work very hard for our money as do many others. What is wrong with this picture?

Dear Editor:
I read Charles Porter's article titled, “Creation and Evolution.” I always enjoy reading his articles and believe him to be a well-informed and wise man; however, I do have a different opinion about a couple of his statements.
Man was inspired by God to write the Bible, and what we read there is totally God's word, and it was given to holy men to be put on paper for man to have through the generations.
As for man evolving, I do believe everything changes with time, but I believe the answer to that question is found in Genesis 1-26.
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing which creeps on the earth.”
I believe the Bible is the true and inspired word of God.
I would rather believe we appeared then very similar to what we look like today.
Respectfully,
Rev. Carlton Wetherell
