The Rockport-Fulton High School varsity Pirate volleyball team competed in scrimmages at West Oso and Sinton on Friday and Saturday, performing well and working as a team, said Head Coach Jackie Villarreal.
On Friday, the team traveled to West Oso to face the hosts as well as Ben Bolt. Villarreal said it was an awesome performance as the team played together for the first time with actual rotations and game-like situations. The one area which the team really needs to work on is defense, primarily blocking, the coach said.
On Saturday, the Pirates faced George West, Industrial and Sinton, and also had good performances. Villarreal said all around they played very well together. She pointed out this year's team has new girls who are learning new rotations, and are are adapting.
The Pirates played their first games of the season yesterday against Ingleside and Aransas Pass. They travel to Vanderbilt today to begin tournament play at Industrial High School.
The tournament continues through Friday, Aug. 15.
On Tuesday, Aug. 19, they travel to George West for a 6 p.m. matchup.
