Obituaries for August 13, 2008
Martha Marie Armintrout, 87, of Rockport passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2009. Martha was born to John and Emilie (Lesikar) Shenkir, May 20, 1921 in Seaton, TX.
She married Forest C. “Buck” Armintrout January 8, 1944. After Buck's retirement from the Army they settled in Rockport in 1955. She was a longtime employee of Roaten Drug Store and retired from Walmart in March 2005 after 20 years of service.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 40 years Forest C. “Buck” Armintrout, and her brothers Jessie Shenkir, Edwin Shenkir, Adolph Shenkir, and Rudolph Shenkir.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter Elizabeth Ann “Betty” and son-in-law Robert Wright of Portland and daughter Carolyn Sue “Susan” Langston of Rockport; grandchildren Gary Langston Jr. of Rockport; Dustin (Rebecca) Wright of Silverton, CO; Cole (Tara) Langston of Carrolton; Marissa (Robbie) Whitstine of Rockport; Heather (Javier) Wright-Zapata of Robstown; Kimberly (Gerard) Solis of Rockport; and former granddaughter-in-law Michelle Langston of Floresville; great-grandchildren Donovan Langston and Dee Anthony Langston of Floresville; Jayden Wright, J.J. Zapata, and Krystal Zapata of Robstown; Cooper Langston and Samantha Langston of Carrolton; Reece King, Ryker Whitstine, Riley Whitstine, Ryder Whitstine, Xander Solis and Kyren Solis of Rockport; sister Ollie Jakubik of Snook; and brother John Shenkir of Temple.
Visitation was held Monday August 11, 2008 from 4 until 9 p.m. at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the Charlie Marshall Chapel. Martha's nephew Pastor Carlson Jakubik of St John's United Church, New Braunfels officiated. Interment followed at Rockport Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gary Langston Jr., Cole Langston, Donovan Langston, Dee Anthony Langston, Gerard Solis, Robbie Whitstine, Javier Zapata and Robert Wright.
Billy Joe “Bill” Bennett, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2008. He was born March 4, 1933 in Henrietta, TX. Bill served in the Naval Reserves and the U. S. Army. He worked in the auto glass business for many years before becoming a manufacturing representative for PPG. He retired after 30 years and came back to Rockport which he considered his home. He loved the coast and was an avid fisherman.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Joe T. Bennett and Ina Mae Rankin; his son, John T. Bennett and daughter, Brandy Sherry Rhodes. He is survived by his wife, Conchetta Bennett and his daughter, Linda S. Parker, both of Rockport; four step-sisters, six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, Rockport. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 14, 2008 at Charlie Marshall Chapel with interment to follow at Rockport Cemetery.
Thelma Dean Mullins, age 90, of Rockport, TX, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2008 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law in Aransas Pass. She was born to Ralph and Tena Fregia on August 5, 1918 in Batson, TX. Thelma has been a resident of Rockport since 1987. Prior to that she was a long-time resident of Beeville.
Thelma was always an active Christian with an optimistic and outgoing personality. At an early age she knew that she wanted to be a teacher and was active in the education field for her entire adult life. She majored in education with a bachelor's degree from Howard Payne University and a master's degree from Idaho State University. Thelma retired in 1983 after teaching for 37 years of which 27 of those years was teaching 7th and 8th graders at Thomas Jefferson Junior High in Beeville. Even upon retiring Thelma stayed active in the teaching field by teaching Sunday School classes at Coastal Oaks Baptist Church in Rockport and English as a second language to the Rockport community.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Luther Mullins. She is also preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Ralph (J. R.) Fregia of Ft. Worth; and three sisters; Jimmie A. May and Helen Marie Davis of Beaumont; and Genevieve Maxine McNew of Nocona.
Thelma is survived by her son H. Lloyd Mullins and his wife, Linda of Aransas Pass; two grandchildren; H. Lane Mullins and his wife, Janis of Leander; and Larissa J. Johnson and her husband, Jay of Pflugerville. She is also survived by two brothers and a sister; Herbert N. Fregia of Marrero, LA; Roger H. Fregia and his wife, Peggy of Little Rock, AR; Barbara J. Ellis of Longview. Thelma is also survived by her long-time caregiver, Margaret Lott of Aransas Pass.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home - Aransas Pass. The family will be present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday to receive friends at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 14, 2008 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marshall Johnston officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m., Thursday afternoon at the Beeville Memorial Park Cemetery in Beeville.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made by memorial contributions to the South Texas Children's Home, P. O. Box 1210, Beeville, TX 78104-9984.
