Obituaries for June 14, 2008
Claude Bentley (Buddy) Moore III, 81, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2008. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
Buddy was born July 16, 1926 to Claude Bentley Moore and Anabel Smith Moore in Cuero. He graduated from Cuero High School and attended Schreiner College. He graduated from the University of Texas and soon after married the love of his life, Joanna Louise Janssen on October 1, 1949. The couple had four children, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandson. They lived most of their married life in Nordheim, Austin, and for the last few years in Rockport.
Buddy's humor and ability to make friends served him well in his professional life. He worked in sales, and enjoyed traveling central and south Texas for many years. In his second half of life he excelled as a Certified Drug and Alcohol counselor and has been credited with saving thousands of lives through his counsel and intervention.
Throughout his life, Buddy loved the water. He worked summers as a lifeguard and was a member of UT's intramural champion water polo team. He enjoyed teaching his children to swim at early ages. He loved fishing and especially the Copano Bay area. Other interests included history and painting the Texas Scenery he traveled.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jane Moore. He is survived by his wife Joanna of Rockport; son Claude (Karen) Bentley IV of Arlington; daughters, Sandra (Jeff) Ransom, Sue Moore (Ken Klein) and Laura (Steven) Krol, all of Austin; grandchildren Page Bachman (Denny) McDaniels of Austin, Trey Bachman of Austin, Megan and Bethany Moore of Arlington, Ian C. (Karen) Paul of Ottawa, Kelsey Krol of Houston, Kari, Kenton and Kandice Krol of Corpus Christi; great-grandson Westin J. McDaniels of Austin; and countless friends in Austin and Rockport, especially his church family at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
A memorial service is planned for June 28 at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Rockport. Interment will be at the Nordheim Cemetery at a date yet to be decided. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
Berry E. Smith, 82, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2008. He was born April 25, 1926 in Caldwell County. He had been a Rockport resident for 52 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Smith. He is survived by one brother; one sister; and six grandchildren.
The family will hold a private service at a later date.
GladyMae Thompson, 82, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008 in Rockport. She was born July 28, 1925. She was also a lifelong member of Northside Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Ridgway of Rockport; two sons, Brad (Debbie) Thompson of San Antonio and Rod (Merle) Thompson of Victoria; two sisters; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John P. Thompson; one sister; one brother; and one son-in-law.
Visitation was to be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, June 13, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels in Victoria.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14 at Northside Baptist Church in Victoria with Rev. Mickey Ewing officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Victoria.
Eugene William Wagner, 81, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2008. He was born Aug. 4, 1926 in Port Arthur. He had been a Rockport resident for the past three years. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Leslie Wagner; two brothers; and one sister. He is survived by two brothers, Glen (Gladys) Wagner of Rockport, and Robert (Laura) Wagner of Beaumont.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday, June 13 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 14 at La Rosa Cemetery in Woodsboro.
