Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor:
It had all the elements of a great screenplay. The meeting featured four outgoing Aransas County Navigation board members, with newly-elected board members in attendance, a business and land owner trying to get his floating dock issue passed in environmentally-challenged Little Bay, and a Pilot reporter giving advice to the board members about “points of order.”
I haven't attended a navigation district meeting in years, but the sequel to “One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest” is still alive and well in Aransas County. Actually, I'm not convinced the outgoing board members aren't the real winners after all. It will be very interesting to see how many items will be tabled and passed on to the new board members who take office in January.
I recommend all residents take the opportunity to attend one of these meetings if you appreciate “live entertainment with displays of verbal hostility, humor, confusion, insults, and nervous speakers.” The best part is there is no fee.

Dear Editor:
The harbor bridge is a magnificent and most necessary addition to the City of Corpus Christi. Several months ago this bridge underwent a major repair and overhaul. It seems, however, the powers that be left the job “half done.” They left it in an unsightly and rather scary condition: unpainted.
I live in Rockport but go to Corpus Christi often and therefore cross over this bridge several times a month. With the Minneapolis bridge collapse in mind, each time I cross over, I subconsciously hope and pray the bridge doesn't collapse, because its unsightly condition leaves me with the thought it might do just that. Why doesn't someone do what is necessary and paint this rusty looking 50-year-old bridge?
Further, while they are at it, why doesn't the City re-light the “Napoleon's Hat” which added so much to the skyline of the City? I have heard the lighting was discontinued because the electric bill was too costly and the city can't afford such. Please, give me a break. Is the city council being penny wise and pound foolish? The bridge should be re-lighted.
