One child was killed and another area resident remains in critical condition as of press deadline Tuesday following separate accidents early Sunday and Monday.
Sunday accident
The first incident occurred at 3:21 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Live Oak Street and Enterprise Boulevard when the driver of one of the vehicles involved failed to stop at the sign while traveling north on Live Oak.
According to patrolman Spencer Yarnall, the accident occurred when James Russell Phillips, 30, of Rockport, entered the intersection and T-boned a 2004 Honda Civic which was westbound on Enterprise.
The driver of the Honda, Dung Phoung Vo, 17, of Rockport was not injured. Front seat passenger Justin Rodriguez, 19, of Rockport was transported to North Bay Hospital with possible injuries.
Kevin Van Vo, 14, was riding in the back seat of the Honda, the area which was struck by the Thunderbird. He was transported by HALO-Flight to Driscoll Children's Hospital with critical injuries.
Phillips was not injured. His passenger, Regina Anna St. Clair, 25, of Rockport had possible injuries.
Phillips was cited for DWI and failure to stop at a stop sign.
Monday fatality
Fulton Volunteer Fire Department personnel were called to the scene to free the drivers of two vehicles involved in a near head-on collision just west of the Port Bay bridge on Highway 188.
The accident, reported shortly before 8 a.m., was caused when a 1999 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup, driven by Jack Manes, 78, of Rockport crossed the center stripe and struck a 2003 Chrysler Town & Country minivan.
According to DPS Trooper Diane Martinez, the driver of the minivan, Melinda Kaye Snapka, 34, of Taft was traveling eastbound on her way to drop her three- and five-year-old foster children off at school/daycare, before going to work herself.
Witnesses at the scene said two vehicles traveling in front of Snapka took evasive action to the right to miss the oncoming pickup.
Snapka reportedly could not react in time to avoid the collision. She and Manes were transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital by Aransas County EMS and Tri County EMS, respectively.
The two foster children, Faith Monroe, 5, and Tia Monroe, 3, were transported to Driscoll Children's Hospital by HALO-Flight. F. Monroe did not have any apparent injuries.
T. Monroe, who was pulled from the minivan still strapped in her car seat, received massive head injuries. The force of the collision was centered on the left front and left sides of both vehicles. T. Monroe was sitting on that side of the minivan. She passed away shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday.
F. Monroe was in a booster seat on the right side of the minivan.
"It was a tragic scene," said Trooper Lester Keener.
Martinez said the accident is still under investigation.

" How many will comment for this little girl. No family to hold her and her life taken away. This is a ridiculous accident. People drive like they are the only ones on the road. Enforce the laws. "
